Pedro Mateus joined the Computational Pathology Group as a postdoctoral researcher in August 2025. He is working within the Commitment project, under the supervision of Jeroen van der Laak, to develop new biomarkers for routine clinical practice that can improve treatment decision-making for patients with breast cancer. Pedro obtained his master’s degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Minho in 2017, where he specialized in medical informatics. After working as a software engineer, he began his PhD program in 2021 at Maastricht University in the Clinical Data Science group. His PhD focused on building clinically relevant prediction models and leveraging federated learning to develop generalizable models in the fields of dementia and oncology.
