Carlijn Lems obtained her BSc and MSc in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences at Leiden University. For her research internship, she joined the Computational Pathology Group to work on an AI for Health project under the supervision of Leander van Eekelen and Francesco Ciompi. The project focused on color deconvolution for color-agnostic and cross-modality analysis of immunohistochemistry whole-slide images with deep learning. In February 2024, Carlijn rejoined the group as a PhD candidate on the COMMITMENT project to work on deep learning for improved breast cancer treatment decision-making under the supervision of Francesco Ciompi and Jeroen van der Laak.
